Lemongrass Powder

  • Like other Southeast Asian spices, lemongrass has no substitute.  The spice has a distinctly warm, lemon aroma, but not the sour taste of the fruit.  The citrus flavor of lemongrass instead is slightly sweet, and has the familiar, but milder, bite of ginger.  The spice complements and balances sharper flavors, which is why it is frequently combined with chili pepper, garlic, galangal, and turmeric in many Thai, Malaysian, and other Southeast Asian dishes. Fresh lemongrass stalks are ideal for cooking, but not always easy to access if you are not living near an Asian grocer that carries them (click here to read our article: “How to Grow Lemongrass”). To always have that unique flavor ready in the kitchen, try our Lemongrass Powder in your next homecooked Asian dish.
  • Try our lemongrass powder in a recipe for Thai Peanut Sauce, or in Thai soups like Tom Kha and Tom Yum Goong. Or try the spice in a recipe for Brussels Sprouts with Spicy Lemongrass Sauce, Vietnamese Beef Stir-Fry, or in a Southeast Asian curry.  Just add in the powder towards the end of the cooking process since the flavor can dissipate if cooked for too long.
